Tashkent Institute of Chemical Technology
The TICT is an internationally recognized governmental institute of higher education, where fundamental training is integrated into action-oriented knowledge and skills; it combines the traditions of classical engineering training and the latest technology in education. It is the country’s main institute for educating highly skilled engineers and technologists in the field of Chemical Engineering, Food Technology, Biotechnology, Ecological Engineering. The institution was founded on the basis of faculties of chemical technology and engineering technology of the Tashkent Polytechnical institute on May 6, 1991 but the history of the Institute began with the opening of the Faculty of Chemistry at former Central Asian State University in 1929 and connected with the development of building, chemical, oil-and-gas and food industries of Uzbekistan.
At present, there is the Main Campus in Tashkent city and 3 Regional Branches in Kungrad, Shahrisabz, and Yangier cities. The main Campus has 5 faculties, 24 departments, the Centre of Innovation Technology, and 12 research laboratories. The Institute provides training on 29 Bachelor programs; 29 Master programs; 16 PhD programs; 5 Double Degree Bachelor programs; 7 Double Degree Master programs, and one Double Degree (Cotutelle) PhD program. The total number of academic staff working at the university is more than 408, including 211 doctors of sciences (DSc), professors, and PhDs (Scientific potential of TICT consists of 46 %), furthermore, there is a Regional Center for Retraining of Teachers at the Institute and two specialized scientific councils, “Uzbekistan-China research joint laboratory on modification of asphalt technology”. TICT has a total of 8902 students, among them 8657 Bachelor students, 133 Master students, and 112 PhD students.
TICT is cooperating with more than 110 foreign higher educational institutions and scientific research centers. Scientists of the Tashkent Institute of Chemistry and Technology have developed medicines, corrosion-resistant non-metallic materials, corrosion inhibitors, biomaterials based on special types of glass ceramics, binders, metals for bone replacement in traumatology, maxillofacial surgery and dentistry; fire retardant materials; information and software products, etc. Much attention in the institute is paid to the problems of ecology; TICT takes part in the implementation of the republican target program “Aral”.
